As part of her graduate program, she spent the summer of 2019 working for Parks Canada in Sable Island National Park Reserve, which became the basis for her master’s research and lifelong interest in the island’s unique ecology. When not nerding out about Sable Island, entomology, marine biology, and her oddities collection, she also enjoys football, crochet, and travel.

Marisa Brook: Untangling Linguistic Agitation
Marisa Brook (she/her) has recently joined Saint Mary’s University as an Assistant Professor in Linguistics and English. Her research is mainly about the deep mathematical patterning (really!) in language change over time and in differences between dialects. As a kid, her favourite subjects were usually math and English – a combination that made no sense at the time but now seems logical enough. She lives in Halifax, where she walks around lost in thought and drinks entirely too much tea.
